The Tomorrow is Today Foundation (T2D) is a non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting social and economic development and community empowerment.  Among its unique initiatives T2D has launched UrbanGoGreen, an educational, advocacy and training initiative that seeks to change the face of America’s blue collar cities into “green collar” economic centers by impacting lives, and restoring and reinvigorating urban communities as it sparks a movement through education, information and action.

Operating within the overall ambit of the Enviro360 project, UrbanGoGreen promotes sustainable social and economic development through advocacy, education, entrepreneurship and job creation in the “green economy” for low income families and for people of color, while also supporting downtown revitalization, urban design and infrastructure rehabilitation. Through the collaborative efforts of public/private/community partnerships the goal of UrbanGoGreen is to provide a pathway from the old manufacturing economy to the future “green economy” by providing cities, metropolitan areas and its citizens with the tools for sustainable urban development.

For too long, national efforts to bolster urban and metropolitan America have been piecemeal, and created in isolation without regard to their impact upon other goals, its youth or the disenfranchised. UrbanGoGreen seeks to ensure a place on the

“green” economic playing field for youth and those most often overlooked are engaged in the present and future development of sustainable economic resources to put America back to work and reclaim its economic and environmental security. A key component is an AmeriCorps inspired Green Jobs Corps that not only emphasizes service and entrepreneurship but stimulates more interest among youth in math and science, so they will be prepared to address global challenges in innovative ways.

UrbanGoGreen is an initiative of Tomorrow is Today birthed from an emerging multi-billion dollar economic sector bringing new opportunities in green construction, clean technology, urban agriculture and energy. Our goal first and foremost is to ensure that low-income people are trained for the purpose of lifting themselves and our urban communities from decline by meeting the demands of a rising green economy.

The UrbanGoGreen Presidential Inaugural Reception Gala is for those interested in climate policy in urban communities and anyone else who would like to join us in celebrating this momentous occasion. Though this is an unofficial inaugural event, a special invitation will be sent to President-Elect Obama and his family, his Administration, and other prominent members of Congress. In the past, newly inaugurated presidents have been known to make appearances at a few unofficial inaugural balls but of course there are no guarantees.
